Became a pupil teacher after leaving grammar school. Went to Birmingham University (Queens University which was Masonic, presumably due to his fathers association) and obtained a teaching qualification.

1904 Wedding Certificate from Solihull gives profession as School Master and address as 53 Carrington St, Toxteth Park.

Spent his career as a primary schoool teacher and was also a Methodist local preacher.
Died at Robert Davies Nursing Homes, West Derby after operation for perforated duodenum. Address given as 26 Wheatcroft Road, Mossley Hill, Liverpool.

Buried in grave 365 section 1a of Allerton Cemetary, Woolton Road, Liverpool on 17th Feb 1933
